The primary pedagogical approach of the AFI Conservatory integrates mentored, “hands-on,” production based filmmaking with preparatory and supplementary instruction in the art and craft of the moving image.
1st Year Productions – 1st year Fellows create short films or narrative exercises that are only viewed with each other for critique.
2nd Year Productions – 2nd year Fellows create a Thesis film that involves the production of a professionally executed moving image production that can be submitted to festivals, awards competition, etc.
Cycle 3+ – 3rd year Fellows create a short film that involves the production of a professionally executed moving image production that can be submitted to festivals.
