The Negative and the Photochemical Process in Cinematography

Step into the world of motion picture film and explore the artistry and technology behind the cinematic image. Led by AFI Cinematography Faculty Valentina Frederico, this session introduces prospective Fellows to film stocks and formats, examining the differences between negative, print, and reversal film while tracing the evolution of image-making from traditional photochemical processes to modern digital intermediate workflows. Also covered in this session is an introduction to the Super 35mm motion picture camera systems available throughout the AFI Conservatory curriculum and production.
